LaWanda Brokenborough to Speak at Kick-off of Helping WOMEN Succeed in America Tour
LaWanda Brokenborough, President of Aerobics Delivered, will be a guest speaker at the kick-off of the Helping WOMEN Succeed in America Tour held at the Fernbank Auditorium in Atlanta, Georgia on January 29th. Topic: The Easy Way to Stay Fit
When LaWanda Brokenborough, realized she was overweight and underpaid, she decided to switch gears and jump headfirst into the fitness industry. Although she had never taken an aerobics class in her life, she decided to start teaching group fitness classes and later started her own mobile fitness and dance company, Aerobics Delivered.
Her favorite quote is “You are where you are today because of the choices you made yesterday.” At the age of 35, in the middle of her journey in life, LaWanda realized that was true. Her body and wallet were both out of shape because of past choices, but she fearlessly took control of the situation.
LaWanda eventually kicked things into gear. She now teaches 32-plus aerobic classes in one week and has earned more than 10 group fitness certifications, including ZUMBA, Turbo Kick, Yoga Fit, Silver Sneakers, SCW H20, and Pilates. She has received the 2010 People You Need to Know Magazine Fitness Diva Superstar Award. In addition, she was selected by ZUMBA to be at the Curves Fitness for Women Convention in Atlanta and selected (for the 2nd time) to lead the ZUMBA halftime performance at the Hawks game in November 2010.
Passionate about fitness, LaWanda donates her time to working with young participants of C.H.O.I.C.E.S., a non-profit organization that helps combat childhood obesity and is a member of Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).
Inspired by other young, disciplined, successful female business owners, LaWanda says, “The one thing everyone must know about doing business in Atlanta is that success is up for grabs but it doesn’t come knocking on our doors. We must network to get it done.”
Life is about balance, however. LaWanda has been classically trained to play the violin and enjoys practicing yoga for relaxation. She also enjoys listening to jazz music.
Her hope for 2011 is to put as big a dent as possible in the Georgia obesity epidemic by showing people that getting fit can be fun.
