On August 26, 2010, we took the People You Need to Know Magazine Publicity Tour to Metro Atlanta Business Network’s (ABN) Monthly Metro Mixer. It was held at the magnificent Villa Christina restaurant, in the trendy Dunwoody section of metro Atlanta.

The hosts for the event were the Founder and President of Metro ABN, Dahlys Hamilton and her Managing Partner and daughter, Janelle Hamilton. Metro ABN hosts monthly networking mixers for business people who are members of the social media platform, Linkedin. They help business professionals leverage their Linkedin connections.

The event started promptly at 6:00 pm and was attended by some of metro Atlanta’s most prominent business professionals who were eager to network and meet face-to-face with other business professionals on Linkedin.

After a few minutes of networking, the program began with a presentation called “Linkedin versus Facebook for Business” by Danny Broadway, MBA, Partner at Yepser Internet Strategy, headquartered in Roswell, Georgia. When Mr. Broadway’s presentation ended, followed by a short question and answer segment, the real networking session was underway.

One of the first people to come up to our display table that evening was Ann Keys-Spencer, President of Visual Marketing Mentors. Ann has more than twenty years of trade show experience and she is truly willing to help anyone succeed in this arena. We look forward to having her on our radio show to talk about “Five Important Things You Should Know About Trade Shows.”

It was great seeing Bonnie Ross-Parker, Founder and CEO of The Joy of Connecting. Bonnie is one of the newest members of the People You Need to Know Magazine network of first-class business professionals. And it was an absolute honor when Ms. Marie Burrell, Marketing Director with GoTextTalk.com came up to our table to introduce herself. Her company is really offering some terrific rates for their mobile text marketing plans.

Beena George, Business Development Manager with Sun Technologies, Inc. made the most of the evening by meeting as many business people as she could. We really enjoyed our extended conversation with the Psychological Illusionist Nick Compise. Nick is described as the modern-day Sherlock Holmes. We’re looking forward to having him on our radio show as well.

John Thomas, Talent Acquisition Consultant with Corporate Hires Solutions stopped by our booth to find out more about People You Need to Know Magazine. It was also great meeting Tricia Milo, with Your 1 Minute Professional Video. Her company says video marketing is the “next evolution in business communications.”

There are some people who just know how to make an unforgettable impression. The person I’m referring to is Coach Kat Altine, CCP, President of Coach Kat Enterprises. She is a member of the International Coach Federation and Georgia Coach Association. We really enjoyed getting to meet Coach Kat. A gentleman we really didn’t get a chance to  spend any time with because our booth got really busy … however, Mr. Mike Quinn, Owner of Froots in Roswell, Georgia, was kind enough to hand me his business card before he had to leave.

And finally, it was nice seeing Ms. Lori A. Manns, President of Quality Media Consultant Group, LLC and a member of the People You Need to Know Magazine family of business professionals. Although Lori has an extremely hectic schedule, she found the time to grace us with her presence at this memorable event.

We look forward to attending and participating in Metro ABN’s 2010 Fall Expo. Linkedin Corporate will be there to present a live 90-minute program including a Q&A session. Don’t miss this opportunity to ask questions directly to the experts from Linkedin Corporate.

On Wednesday, August 25, 2010, we were cordially invited by Ms. Gale Middleton, Director of Membership at Roam Atlanta in Alpharetta, Georgia, to set-up a People You Need to Know Magazine display table at their monthly “Members on the Move, Mix and Mingle” networking event.

If you haven’t been to Roam Atlanta, you are really missing out on the new place to do business for people on the go. Their website says it best, “Roam Atlanta is an innovative meeting, dining and gathering place for a new and progressive workplace. They are dedicated to people on the move who need a better way to connect with others, work productively and grow their businesses.”

When we first entered Roam Atlanta, we were greeted by the very friendly and outgoing Susan Rae, she’s the Marketing Maven for Roam. Her warm smile set the tone for the evening. She introduced us to her husband, Steve Rae, the Founder/Owner of Roam Atlanta. Steve was very enthusiastic about giving us the grand tour around his 5,000 square foot multi-use facility.

Around 6:00 pm, when the networking began, we started meeting very interesting and diverse people right away. We met Kathy Kendrick, Membership Representative with the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. She let us know that membership at the North Fulton Chamber offered a host of benefits.

Ms. Deepa K. Lahoti, Financial Adviser with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney stopped by our table to introduce herself and to find out more information about our company. Graphic Designer extraordinaire Mr. Rafael Ottey with Arratone Productions, LLC, came by our table to tell us about the services his company offered such as logos and great deals on business cards and postcards.

It was great to see one of our hardest working clients in People You Need to Know Magazine, Ms. Ingrid Priscilla Wiggberg, the Founder and President of The Party Makers at the event, meeting new people and signing a few autographs on her page in our magazine.

We spoke at length to Skot Waldron with Smbolic Atlanta about how companies can benefit from and stand out with an effective branding strategy. We’re looking forward to Skot being a guest on our radio show. Another young lady we spoke to about Brand Strategy was Joellyn F. Sargent, President of Brand Sprout. Joellyn’s company offers Marketing Consulting and Brand Strategy solutions. Marna Friedman, Business Development Director with WOW Transformations visited with us for a while to talk about how her company helps turn ideas into intellectual property.

Account Executive, Julia W. Gaddis-Brown, with Oce North America Production Printing Systems, stopped by the table to chat for a while. June Pafundi with Parfundi Real Estate a division of Keller Williams was an absolute pleasure to meet.

One of the nicest people we met that night was Ms. Renzie L. Richardson, President of Be Healthy For Life, LLC. Renzie’s mission is to “provide cost effective health and wellness programs, reduce health insurance costs, and educate to inspire healthy lifestyles.” We are proud to welcome Ms. Renzie L. Richardson as the newest client of People You Need to Know Magazine, metro Atlanta’s network of first-class business professionals. She was happy to sign-up right there at Roam. What a great place to do business!

Life Foundations, LLC Founder and Managing Principal, Alexis Ramos visited our table to inquire about our services. And Eryn L. Bennett, Neighborhood Coordinator with WebSafety came by to share with us how her organization is helping to empower parents on Cell Safety and Web Safety.

We also met the talented photographer, Mike Noa. He was there doing what he does best, and that’s taking great pictures. Mike Remer, Visibility Specialist with Locally Visibile was there asking people the million dollar question, “Are you on the first page of Google” if not, Mike can show you how to make that happen, so your business can stand out on the internet. Mr. Asad Halim, CEO of Media Acoustics found the time to come out and network at this energetic event on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta.

And finally, it was an unexpected and absolute pleasure seeing Ms. Marcia Steele, Managing Partner with ODHR Consultants, a fellow professional speaker, whom I haven’t seen for at least six or seven years.

Thanks Roam Atlanta, for even bringing long lost business colleagues together again, we’ll be back soon.

It’s not unusual for things to get a bit boring in business … yes … I mean B-O-R-I-N-G, routine, run-of-the-mill. However, it is imperative that we FOCUS on finding a way to “kick it up a notch,” as Chef Emeril Lagasse would say. That’s where creativity and courageousness will come into play and often make things more interesting. Struggling with familiar-itis is normal, but we cannot afford to get stuck in this danger zone. Our global business community will not allow it … if we expect to thrive or even survive.

So … what can we do to add some excitement and meaningfulness back into our business? To be honest, oftentimes our business is a reflection of who we are. If we’re feeling a bit sluggish, it’s easy to hang that same cloud over our business affairs. We must frequently reflect on why we’re doing whatever we’re doing in the first place, in order to keep our spirits high or least on an even keel.

Remember how excited you were when you first started out? How can you get that joy back? The answer is not that difficult. It all begins with Y-O-U. If you change your outlook to a more optimistic one, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll begin to generate a fresh new batch of creativity.

The beauty is … enthusiasm is contagious! The great Zig Ziglar said, “For every sale you miss because you’re too enthusiastic, you will miss a hundred because you’re not enthusiastic enough.”

So, whatever it takes to get your enthusiasm back again, be willing to give it a try. It surely makes a BIG difference when you kick things up a notch!

Dr. Shai Hall received a BS in biology from Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, and her DDS degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore/College of Dental Surgery. Commissioned as a Captain in the United States Air Force Dental Corps, Dr. Hall gained extensive advanced dental training while serving her country in the U.S. and Japan.

At People You Need to Know Magazine, we’re proud to salute Ms. Ursula Harrington as our Person of the Week!

Ursula Harrington is a native of sunny Southern California but has lived in Atlanta for 13 years. She is a graduate of Atlanta School of Massage, where she received five certifications. After receiving her license from the state of Georgia, she founded The Recovery Room to provide massage therapy to those who would not normally get a massage.

Ursula says, “I love to cater to women with families and full-time careers. Sometimes it’s hard getting them to make that first appointment, but once they get on my table, they wonder why they didn’t get a massage sooner.”
