Annual Golden Agers Health & Wellness Expo ~ Turner Chapel AME

Turner Chapel A.M.E., located in Marietta, Georgia, was the site of the Golden Agers Health & Wellness Expo on April 16, 2011. People You Need to Know Magazine was honored to be a media partner. This important event will be held on an annual basis.

The registration started at 10:00am and around 10:30am, the Color Guard from Haralson High School performed a fantastic routine to the tune of America the Beautiful. The Color Guard was directed by 1st Sgt. Andrew Brown III.

Mr. Bruce Brooks and his lovely wife, Pauline Brooks, headed up the Health & Wellness Committee. They went out of their way to warmly welcome everyone and did a fantastic job in hosting the event.

Our People You Need to Know Publicity Tour gives us an opportunity to meet many friends and business associates. At this particular event, one of those people happened to be Joni Lovelace, R.N., with Lovelace Living Care Solutions. Joni was also one of  the coordinators on the Golden Agers Committee. In June, Lovelace Living Care Solutions will be celebrating twenty years of serving the metro Atlanta community with home care services.

Everyone who attended the Health Expo was excited about meeting one of America’s top personal trainers, Michael Banks, creator of the DVD series, Body By Banks. Mr. Banks is a renowned fitness & nutrition expert from Salt Lake City, Utah. His system is so effective, one of our staff members has only been using the Body By Banks program for a few days and is already noticing some positive results.

It was great having Michael Banks and Paula R. Westfield (hirepaulatoday@aol.com) on our People You Need to Know Magazine Radio Show to help promote the Golden Agers Health and Wellness Expo. Paula acted as the P.R. person for the expo and for Michael Banks as well. In addition, she was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event, along with Vince Bailey of Vince Bailey Productions.

The Health Expo offered morning and afternoon workshops that covered a wide range of topics such as: Healthy Living & Screening, Prostate Cancer, Healthy Living and Longevity, Diabetes Forum, Men’s Initiative, Women’s Initiative, Aging Parents & Baby Boomers, Senior Resources Transition, Healthy Living Tips, Eating Healthy, Heart Disease, Long Term Care, Hospice Care, Long Term Care Insurance, Spirituality of Older Adults and Advanced Directives.

There was also a Community Health Expo Forum/ Questions and Answers Panel. Notable panelists included Dr. Veronica Clark Tasker, Ann Kelly, RN, LVN, Dr. Greg Taylor, Christi Sparks, Attorney John Spencer, Michael Banks and Jim Kelly.

One of the memorable people who stopped by our People You Need to Know Magazine display table was Patricia D. Fashaw, (pfashaw@humana.com) sales representative with Humana. Ms. Fashaw was one of the first visitors to our table. She was excited about picking up her very own copy of our magazine.

It was a pleasure meeting Nina Taylor with Charles Taylor Photography. She came by our table to chat for awhile and to pick up her complimentary copy of our magazine as well as a copy our Briefcases & Stilettos Newspaper. Ms. Taylor told us about the Celebrate Your Mother, Family Portrait Day on Saturday, April 30th from 11:00am-6:00pm. You can get an 11×14 color print for only $20.00. She said mothers, families, couples, and students are all welcomed.

Anne King, owner of Classy Sassy Designs by Anne, came by our table to learn more about the People You Need to Know Magazine experience. She told us that she has more than 15 years of experience in jewelry design and that her jewelry is designed for the fashionable female. All of her jewelry pieces are original. Anne is a native of Philadelphia, PA, and has been in Atlanta since 1985. Her jewelry is available in Gallery 35 in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Shirley Medley (shirleymedley@gmail.com) with Shirley’s Personal Services, a Professional Personal Assistant and Concierge Service, visited our table for a little while and picked up her personal copy of our magazine.

Priscilla Styles (ap4styles@aim.com) came by to tell us how much she liked our display and got a copy of our magazine to take home. Priscilla is the owner of Scilla’s Sweet Loaves. They specialize in all types of delectable sweet loafs such as Almond, Apple, Banana Nutty, Chocolate Cherry, Coconut Cluster, Pumpkin Delight and so many more.

It was an unexpected pleasure to see the hardworking, community-minded and always friendly, Jeriene Grimes, (jerienebonner@bellsouth.net) vice president of the Cobb County NAACP. We are looking forward to participating as vendors for the fourth year in a row at the 8th Annual Juneteeth Celebration, which her organization hosts every year. It takes place on June 18, 2011 from 10am to 7:00pm on the Marietta Square and Glover Park.

McDonald’s USA, LLC, Adminstrative Assistant and Customer Service Representative for the Atlanta Region, Ms. Angela M. Whitlock, (angela.whitlock@us.mcd.com) came by to show her support for People You Need to Know Magazine.

David Hayden, an Independent Distributor for SendOutCards stopped by to get more information about our publication and to talk about his company.

Aflac Associate, Ms. Ernestine L. Davis (ernestine_davis@us.aflac.com) was happy to introduce herself to us and inquired about the services we offered.

Mary Lucas, (mlucas2@humana.com) sales representative with Humana also spent a little time with us at our display table to find out more about People You Need to Know Magazine. In addition, we had the good fortune of meeting Cynthia Harris with La Bella Baskets. Cynthia came up to our booth to pick up a copy of our magazine and shared with us how her company can help people save up to 30% off gift baskets, flowers and cookie bouquets.

And finally, it was great seeing our friend and one of the hardest working people on the networking scene in Atlanta — the lovely Ms. Linda S. Giles, a President with Ardyss International. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Linda, I hope a meeting with her is in your future because an introduction to Ms. Giles could have a positive impact on your business.

Linda was kind enough to introduce us to the very outgoing Betty Okendo, from Nairobi, Kenya. Ms. Okendo has been with Ardyss International since August of 2010 and her goal for 2011 is to aggressively spread the news about the Ardyss opportunity to the people of Kenya.

Once again, we were proud to be one of the media sponsors of this phenomenal event. And as many of us know, our health deserves personal attention … right now — today!
